Marvell Technology Commits $250 Million

Marvell Technology India operations are set for a landmark expansion as the semiconductor giant commits $250 million over the next three years to double its engineering headcount and open new facilities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The announcement, made on 29 July 2026, marks 20 years since Marvell Technology established its India R&D centre, and positions the country as the company’s most strategically significant engineering hub outside the United States. Why Marvell Technology India Is a Strategic Global Hub

Marvell Technology India began with a small engineering team in Bengaluru in 2006. Two decades later, India has grown into the company’s second-largest R&D organisation worldwide, with teams spanning Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad contributing to some of the most advanced semiconductor programmes in the industry. Indian engineers hold multiple patents and are leading the application of AI tools to accelerate chip design productivity across 2nm and beyond process technologies, high-speed analog IP, subsystem design, and end-to-end silicon development.

“India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell Technology India operations, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world’s leading hyperscalers and cloud providers,” said Navin Bishnoi, Vice President and India Country Manager at Marvell. “As we celebrate 20 years in India, we remain committed to expanding R&D investments, strengthening the country’s semiconductor ecosystem and developing the next generation of technology talent.”

What the $250 Million Investment Covers

The $250 million commitment funds three core areas. First, a new wing at the Bengaluru office will expand laboratory and engineering workspace for silicon design teams. Second, Marvell’s Hyderabad presence will be significantly enlarged to accommodate new hiring in firmware, software and systems engineering. Third, the company plans to double its total India headcount over the next three years, adding hundreds of engineers across all three India locations.

According to the official Marvell press release, the expanded footprint will strengthen the company’s global innovation network, supporting design and development of advanced semiconductor solutions for AI, cloud and data infrastructure applications. Marvell’s India teams already contribute across networking, storage, compute and custom ASIC programmes serving the world’s largest hyperscalers. The MSTEM Scholarship Programme

Alongside its infrastructure investment, Marvell launched the Marvell Scholarship for Technical and Engineering Merit (MSTEM) programme earlier in 2026. Targeting students pursuing degrees in electronics, electrical engineering and computer science, MSTEM attracted more than 7,000 applicants from leading universities across India in its inaugural year, with 100 outstanding students selected to receive scholarships. The programme combines financial support with hands-on industry engagement, building a long-term talent pipeline directly into Marvell Technology India’s growing engineering organisation.

Building India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

Beyond its own operations, Marvell Technology India actively works to strengthen the broader national semiconductor ecosystem. The company collaborates with universities on internship programmes, faculty development, joint research and curriculum development designed to prepare students for careers in chip design. It also mentors startups working in areas aligned with Marvell’s technology portfolio and engages with government bodies and industry associations to support the growth of India’s semiconductor sector.

India’s semiconductor ambitions have attracted several major global chipmakers in recent years. Micron Technology is building a chip assembly and testing facility in Gujarat with government support, while Applied Materials has deepened its India engineering presence. Marvell’s $250 million commitment adds significant momentum to what is becoming a genuinely competitive destination for high-value chip design work, particularly in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

What This Means for Indian Startup Founders and Engineers

For India’s semiconductor startup ecosystem, the expansion of Marvell Technology India carries significant implications. Doubling headcount will intensify competition for experienced chip designers, potentially driving up salaries and raising expectations for engineering talent across the sector. At the same time, companies like Marvell have historically been among the largest contributors to India’s pool of experienced semiconductor engineers, many of whom eventually found or join domestic chip startups.

The broader signal is clear: India is no longer simply a cost-efficient destination for back-office chip verification work. Marvell’s decision to site world-class AI silicon development, 2nm process expertise and custom ASIC design in India reflects a genuine rethinking of where frontier semiconductor work can and should happen. For Indian engineers and founders, this is an inflection point for the entire industry.
