Tell us about yourself?
I am a trust worthy, honest, good sales person first, based in Chennai, India. I started my career as a salesperson and always loved to do the toughest jobs or impossible tasks only.
I love challenges and told all the sales executives in my group to hand over all the toughest customers to me, in my 4th weekly meeting of my first job. I believed that the tougher the job the tougher we become and more smarter too, in the shortest period of time.
Later I started my advertising agency and excelled in it and then I started the development arm of a startup company based at USA, called Component Cafe.
Then became the CEO of Again Technologies Inc. Then I became CEO of Technopundits India Pvt. Ltd.Then I became CEO of Cellarstone India Pvt Ltd.
The Indian subsidiary of Cellarstone Inc. USA. My Job is taking care of the development team in India and provide the software development to the parent company in USA. While managing these companies I came to know the importance of software professionals and their importance to the company.
So developed my own strategy of making these employees never leave my company and fairly succeeded in it. It is called in a fancy name like “employee engagement and employee experience” nowadays or from 2000 itself.
What lessons has being an entrepreneur taught you?
As an entrepreneur the “First” customers to a company are its “Employees” and then the second customers are the people who are buying your products or services. If you take care of your First customer well and then the Second customer, your company will grow continuously.
If you could go back in time to when you first started your business, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Never waste “Time” as it is equal to money. Always Focus, focus and focus on what you plan to achieve.
A lot of entrepreneurs find it difficult to balance their work and personal lives. How have you found that?
I have managed well with respect to work-life balance, but it is very crucial for your success, well being and your family. My job is to make all employees’ work-life balance a success through my company Greatway Employee Commitment Consultancy. (www.geccworld.com)
What is the inspiration behind your business?
My business is “Employee engagement and employee experience”. If you check in ChatGPT or Copilot , and ask this question of what are the top ten reasons of 9 out of 10 startups fail, or reasons for startups failures, you will get the following results and possibles solutions for that too. If we analyze these top ten reasons, nine are about “human resources” or in short employees.
The problem is not utilizing the brain of all its employees, which could make a huge difference in the success of the startups. The world statistics of employees fully engaged in their work is only 33% and the rest are disengaged or actively disengaged.
Microsoft labs in 2022, conducted research in 200companies and 3 million employees and found out “The New Performance Equation in the Age of AI” as Performance = Productivity X Engagement. And employee engagement improves bottom line by up to 20% more than those who do not have it.
These findings are my inspiration as I have found out this in 2002 -2003 itself and implemented the best solution in my company at that time.
What do you think is your magic sauce? What sets you apart from the competitors?
I am implementing a magic sauce, which was invented or implemented by Mr. Jack Welch of GE and has written about it in his book titled “WINNING”.
How have you found sales so far? Do you have any lessons you could pass on to other founders in the same market as you just starting out?
Sales is very tough as this service is only implemented by medium and big business with 250 plus employees as of now. The real market is small and medium business of 10 to 50 employees. reaching out to them and explain the ROI is of 250% for these services could help.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far in your business, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge is that reaching out to all the small businesses about this service is tough as they are not aware of this or if they are aware means they think it is easy to manage or they think it will take 5 years to get the fatal results of closure of business. so they are not easily worried about what will happen after 4 years or so.
What do you consider are the main strengths of operating your business in India and the specific state you are in over other states in India?
The main strength is language as I can speak and write in my native language. As I do not know Hindi, which I will overcome in the coming days, I prefer my state for the time being. But my plan is expand to whole of India and then to move to the worldwide using AI technologies.
What (if any) are some weaknesses of operating your business within India and your state?
The same language barrier I may face in other states, as communication is key for success. We need to speak the native language of the people to make them participate in the success of the organization. Here it is the trust the management has on the employees and employees is at question and that is what we will try to build it. For that native language of those states is vital for our success.
If you could operate your business in another state in India rather than the State you are in, which state would it be and why?
Karnataka and then Andhra/Telangana. Because logistics make it quicker to go and come. More over these states are good in English as well and I am also somewhat conversant in these languages, which is why i will expand first in these states then to all over India.
India has an incredibly diverse population. How has the affected your consumer base and business?
It has not affected us as all are employees and all I have to do is use them to improve the organization in a better way. Since they will be benefitted by my service there is no adverse effect on this work
Infrastructure is really important to businesses. How have you seen India’s infrastructure improve recently? Do you see new opportunities opening up?
Yes, as the world is facing the AI wave, the business community will be happier to get more sales at less cost of operation. So does the infrastructure improvement on this greatest wave of AI which is going to hit the market with innovative products and services.
